COLOMBIA - 18 DAYS

 

 DAY 1  Bogota (/) – Meet & greet on arrival and transfer to your hotel. Rest of the day to explore at leisure whilst you acclimatise.

 DAY 2  Bogota (B/L) – Today, visit Plaza de Paloquemao, one of the most popular markets in Bogota with a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables. After visit some of the most iconic places in Bogota's historic centre, the Gold Museum, the Museo Botero, La Candelaria and enjoy panoramic views of the city from the top of Cerro de Monserrate.

 DAY 3  Bogota – Villa de Leyva (B/L) – Travel to Villa de Leyva with a stop at the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira and Raquira built 180m underground within the tunnels of a salt mine. After, visit Raquira, a small a colourful village with brightly painted facades and a jumble of crafts shops. Continue to Villa de Leyva, a small Spanish-style town founded in 1572.

 DAY 4  Villa de Leyva – Gachantiva (B/L) – Early in the morning, you will go to a local farm for  traditional Colombian breakfast, followed by a cooking experience to learn how to make a traditional Colombian corn pastry. Rest of the day at leisure.

 DAY 5  Villa de Leyva – Bogota – Pereira (B) – On the way to Bogota, stop at Boyaca Bridge where the most important battle of the Colombian War of Independence took place. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Pereira, one of the main cities in Colombia's Coffee Region. Transfer to your hotel.

 DAY 6  Pereira – Valle de Cocora and Salento (B/L) – Day trip to Cocora Valley Natural Park where the cloud forest is a prime example of the amazing diversity of fauna and flora special to Colombia’s Coffee Region. Light trekking across the valley with bird watching opportunities. Visit a local coffee plantation and learn how to taste and evaluate the coffee's quality.

 DAY 7  Pereira – Marsella (B/L) – Visit to Marsella to enjoy tasting fruit with exquisite organic chocolate. Walk among the cocoa trees and learn about the chocolate process from taking the seeds, roasting them and melting them to obtain a delicious cocoa cream, with which you can prepare your own drink.

 DAY 8  Pereira – Santa Rosa de Cabal (B) – Visit to Santa Rosa de Cabal and relax in the natural thermal pools.  Return to your hotel in the afternoon and rest of the day at leisure.

 DAY 9  Pereira – Medellin (B) – Transfer to the airport for your flight to Medellin via Bogota. Meet and greet on arrival and transfer to your hotel.

 DAY 10  Medellin and Comuna 13 (B) – Visit the most iconic areas of the city including: Plaza de Botero, El Pueblito Paisa and Parque LLeras. Visit also to Comuna 13, previously one of the most dangerous neighbourhoods in Medellin. During the tour, you will ride multiple elevators installed on the side of a mountain to help people move through the community easier. The walls of Comuna 13 are adorned with bright graffiti and your local guide will explain the meaning and symbolism behind some of the works of art.

 DAY 11  Medellin – Guatape – Cartagena (B) – Visit Guatape, a small town wedged between a reservoir and a colossal stone called EL Peñol. See the colourful houses, intricately decorated with traditionally painted carvings along the lower parts of the main entrances. Continue on to El Peñol for a stunning view of the region and enjoy a boat ride around the reservoir. Late in the afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight to Cartagena. Meet and greet and transfer to your hotel.

 DAY 12  Cartagena (B) – City tour visiting the Castillo de San Felipe and the old city surrounded by the impressive walls built during the Spanish rule to protect the city against enemies and looters. Walk around its cobbled streets, visiting or passing by the main historical sites.

 DAY 13  Cartagena – La Boquilla Fishing Village (B/L) – Morning visit to La Boquilla, a small fishing village on the northern tip of a narrow peninsula, bordered by the sea on one side and the Ciénaga de Tesca on the other.  Take a trip in a wooden canoe through the mangrove forest and see some native and migratory birds whilst learning about the flora and other fauna found in this ecosystem as well as local fishing techniques.

 DAY 14  Cartagena – Santa Marta (B) – Transfer to Santa Marta, the oldest colonial city in South America and famous for the Quinta de San Pedro Alejandrino, where the national hero Simon Bolivar died in 1830. Check in to your hotel and rest of the day at leisure.

 DAY 15  Santa Marta – Tayrona Park (B) – Spend the day at Tayrona National Natural Park, with some of the most beautiful beaches in Colombia. Hike across the forest to visit various beaches in the park where you can swim and relax.

 DAY 16  Santa Marta (B) – Day at leisure to enjoy the beaches.

 DAY 17  Santa Marta – Cartagena – Bogota (B) – transfer to the airport for your flight to Bogota. Meet and greet on arrival and check in to your hotel.  Rest of the day at leisure.

 DAY 18  Bogota (B) – Day at leisure until time for your transfer to the airport to catch your flight.
